19th meeting of Gujarat State Wildlife Board is held under chairmanship of CM Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani



Ahmedabad: The Asiatic Lion of Gir, that has won laurel for Gujarat and India in the wildlife sector of the world, has showed its population growth up by 29 per cent in the latest census held recently. 

According to the census the lion population has increased from 523 to 674. Besides this, the population of Ghudkhar (Wild Ass) has also showed upward surge of 37 per cent with increase of its numbers from previous 4,403 to 6,082 now.

 

This information was given to the members of ‘The State Wildlife Board’ in its 19th meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani.

 

During the meeting held through a video conference, the Chief Minister, in the presence of Gujarat forest minister Mr. Ganpatsinh Vasava and Dr Rajiv Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest & Environment), had reviewed the various wildlife works and activities of the forest department.       

 

During the deliberation held in the meeting, it was informed that it has come to the notice that a mass-scale nesting of flamingoes has had happened in the bigger desert of Kutch. Beside this, the colonies of ‘Greater Flamingoes’ and ‘Laser Flamingoes’ were also setup, along with over 100,000 baby (cub) flamingoes. 

 

The  setup of ‘Jungle Safari Sardar Zoological Park’ under the guidance and inspiration of Chief Minister at Prime Minister Mr. Narendrabhai Modi’s dream project ‘Statue of Unity’, located at Kevadia Colony, has attracted more than 1,500 animals and birds from various parts of India and across the world. 

 

During the meeting, the recommendations were made to grant the permissions for installations of oil and crude pipeline, gas pipeline, electrical lines, road transmission line and optical fiber cables for usage in this protected zone. Beside these, a recommendation was also made to grant permission for setting up a natural gas pipeline project of Gujarat State Petronet Limited, Gandhinagar, in the ‘Eco Sensitive Zone’.
